Livejournal just informed me that I haven't updated in 32 weeks.

SHEESH!

That's a long time. I've been posting comics since then but as far as I can tell nobody's really reading them. Yes, my girlfriend reads them and my friends that I used to work with and now drink with read them but I'd ilke to break into that elusive category of people who aren't my close friends.

I realized I haven't posted in approximately...forever. But I've been a busy little bastard, what with moving and entertaining a lady friend and Thanksgiving and drinking. Anyway, I finished my latest storyline, Three Wishes, and here it is!

Anyhoo, part of why I'm posting this is to just post it. You know, to show it off (psst...go to my website, thisis65.com). I'm also super broke! So, if anyone is interested in having my first ever book of comics, I'm offering here first! SPX and Night of the Creeps!

SPX was awesome and next year I'm most definitely having a table, possibly with my brother which I think would be the most rocking thing ever. Anyhoo, I got to meet my favorite two comics ladies:

Meredith "Octopus Pie" Gran!

and Kate "Kate Beaton" Beaton!

Both of whom were incredibly modest despite the massive lines of people lined up at their tables. I'm up to my ass in work at Discovery today which kind of bums me out because I have an enormous pile of comics to read:

So here are some more recent comics including today's, which is the first of a three-parter. I want to do more of these short arcs, they're getting to be a lot of fun to think of.

In other news, so apparently SPX is in two weeks. I live in Maryland, I draw this crap constantly and I didn't know about this? Shit. Really? I feel like there's something I'm missing out on. Like, am I not being feverish enough in getting my comic out there? I think I need to start printing comics and leaving them in random "hip" places to build up a mysterious fanbase. Eh, I don't know. I do know I want more readers.

The Drawing Process

If anyone was curious about my "system" as it were, it goes like this:

I think of a stupid idea for a comic on my way to work, usually.
I draw that comic while I'm at work, usually.
I scan that comic in with the help of Mr. Stompington:

Then, while Stomps knocks shit over on my desk, I play with the comic for a bit in Photoshop and load the bitch on up to this lovely sit.

Really, this was all just an excuse to show that picture of my cat on my scanner. CAT SCAN! Ahhhhhhhhhhh get it?

Recent entries. I was thinking about something the other day, I was thinking about how I don't draw anything with a coherent storyline or even that many reoccuring characters (besides myself but I don't think that really counts, does it?) On the one hand, I thought that drawing a bunch of random shit was a cop-out and I should be focusing on a story of some kind. But...on the other hand, I think drawing a straight out story would be the cop-out. Writing an arc isn't easy exactly, but it's almost like a safety net. To make an analogy, much like when you find yourself in a loveless relationship and the only reason you're staying in it is because you're used to it and it's comfortable, writing nothing but story arcs I think might end up being a creative dead end.

I find it a lot more challenging to constantly come up with something random and short...which isn't to say that I still don't occasionally fall back on an easy out (cough cough cripple and a robot cough). What do you guys think?

So this morning I decided to upload a ton of photos and some watercolors to my Flickr page in keeping with the whole "putting all like things together on one website" mentality. Check out my Flickr page if you're interested. Meanwhile, here are a few choice nuggets:

The interesting thing is that all these photos are at LEAST a year old. I have rolls and rolls of film I need to develope...if only I could sneak into a darkroom.

Beginning a Watercolor Set

Album artwork

I figured I'd post this here since one of the things I was planning on doing when I started this livelyjournal thing was post artwork. Well, I haven't really made any art recently but that's changed!

This is the final drawing for a jazz/blues cd by Stephen Charles. He's a friend of mine I used to work with back at Starbucks (ha!) and he asked me to do the cover for his new album. I said yes. This was MONTHS ago. I've had some trouble with motivation lately.

So whaddaya think?
